The dog, who had been at the Animal Shelter for 1,825 days, will start a new life in the Netherlands with his adopter.
Pumba now has a home. After waiting 1,825 days at the Sa Coma Animal Shelter, this dog has finally found a family willing to give him the life he had been waiting for for five years.
His new adopter is Marjolijn Coenen, a Dutch national, who has decided to welcome him into her home and give him a second chance. And so, Pumba leaves the animal shelter in Ibiza behind to begin a new chapter off the island, in the Netherlands.
The adoption was celebrated by the Ibiza City Council and by Sa Coma itself, where the news of the adoption is seen as one of those stories that brings special joy to those who care for the animals waiting for a family every day.
Manuel Jiménez, the Ibiza City Council’s Animal Welfare Councilor, expressed his satisfaction with this adoption and emphasized that “every animal that leaves Sa Coma to start a new life with a family is great news.” In Pumba’s case, the joy is even greater: “He’s been waiting five years for this opportunity, and today we can celebrate that he’s finally found the home he so richly deserved.”
Many animals are still waiting
Pumba’s story has a happy ending, but in Sa Coma there are still many dogs and cats waiting for their chance. Some have been waiting for months. Others, for years. They all hope for the same thing: that someone will stop to look at them and decide to take them home.
Jiménez has emphasized the importance of responsible adoption and noted that at the shelter, “there are still many dogs and cats waiting, with the same hope that Pumba had, for a family to give them a second chance.”
The city council member encouraged residents to visit the Animal Protection Center and meet the animals living there. “Adopting an animal gives it a new life and, at the same time, enriches your own,” he emphasized.
A Second Chance, Even Off the Island
The Ibiza City Council would like to extend special thanks to the Ibiza Abandoned Dogs Foundation for its ongoing commitment to finding adoptive families both within and outside of Spain.
